1. What cookies and browser storage are

A cookie is a small file a site saves on your device. “Local storage” and “session storage” are similar browser features that keep information on your device without sending it to a server. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, storage that is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for may be used without consent; anything else needs your consent first. Everything listed below is strictly necessary or set only after you deliberately sign in.

2. What we use

Valuation draft — local storage, on your device, cleared on submission. Saves the answers you have typed into the valuation form so a dropped signal or accidental refresh does not lose your progress.
Listing draft — local storage, on your device, cleared on submission. Same protection for the “list your vehicle” form, including while you sign in part-way through.
Authentication tokens — local storage, until you sign out or the session expires. Set only when you sign in to an account. They keep you signed in between pages and are required for the marketplace and your account area.
Google sign-in — set by Google during the sign-in redirect. If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google sets its own cookies on its own domain to authenticate you and return you to us. Those are governed by Google's cookie and privacy policies.
Post sign-in destination — session storage, cleared when you close the tab. Remembers the page you were on so we can return you there after sign-in.
Staff session cookie — set only for our team. Set when a member of our team signs in to the internal console. It is never set for ordinary visitors.
Hosting and abuse-protection cookies — strictly necessary, short-lived. Used by our hosting platform to serve pages securely, balance traffic and protect forms from automated abuse.

3. Analytics and advertising

We do not currently run third-party analytics, advertising, remarketing or social-media tracking cookies on this site, and we do not share browsing data with advertisers. If that ever changes we will ask for your consent through a cookie banner before any non-essential cookie is set, and we will update this page first.

4. Third-party content

We load web fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers and Google receives your IP address for that request. No advertising or social tracking pixels are embedded on this site. Photographs and files are served from our own private storage.

5. Managing cookies and storage

You can clear or block cookies and site data in your browser settings, usually under Privacy or Site settings, and most browsers let you do this per site. Useful guidance is available at aboutcookies.org.uk.

Because everything we set is strictly necessary, blocking it has consequences: the valuation and listing forms will stop saving your progress and may fail to submit, and you will not be able to stay signed in or use your account and the marketplace.
